The DEVIATE application is a tool used to monitor checked bags and ensure that they are traveling on the correct flight. The application can be accessed through mobile handheld scanners or on a tablet/desktop computer. The functions of the DEVIATE application fit into three definitions: Reroute, Forward and Hold. 

1. Reroute – When there is a change to a customer’s itinerary after the bag is checked, this is required. 

2. Forward - If a customer leaves on a flight and his or her checked bag is left behind, this is required. 

3. Hold - If a customer’s bag needs to be tracked, but you don’t know exactly what is going to be done with it yet, this is required.
